Bootleg Finders
This club is dedicated to finding bootlegs and preventing people from buying them. What's a bootleg? Broadly speaking, it refers to any item/media/etc. that is reproduced and sold without licensing or taxation; it is an illegal business! Many places sell bootleg figures and media because they are cheap to reproduce and have a bigger profit turnover. Sellers take advantage of both new and old collectors alike with this business. The goal of this club is to educate and prevent members of My Figure Collection from falling for bootlegs.

If you find products you think are bootlegged, are not properly marked in our database, or aren't linked here please post or let a MOD or ADM know so we can change it.

For an ongoing list of Ebay bootleg sellers please check this thread: club/139/discus...

Some common signs of bootlegs and a bootleg seller:

• Price too good to be true (e.g. $40 USD for a figure that normally retails for $100-$150 USD)
• Shiny, fake plastic looking skin or parts
• Noticeable seams, details seem to be missing, parts may not be molded correctly, eyes look different than original figure
• Lack of a holographic sticker (may or may not be true, some official products lack official stickers as well)
• Jointed figures (Nendoroid, Figmas, Figuarts...) may appear loose or like they're about to fall apart
• Seller lists other known bootleg products or other large amounts of cheap merchandise (jewelry, electronics, etc.)
• Seller's username is a combination of random letters/numbers (e.g. 1327198, xmg50427867-4)
• Listing does not state the company or that the figure is legitimate. They may use phrasing such as "China version, China original, China homegrown product", terms such as "new PVC statue, PVC figure, 100% High Quality Brand New", or nothing at all

Uke2個月前#78469867Hi, I see the figure has been sold already (don't know if you were the one who eventually bought it) but judging from the pictures I'm pretty sure it's a bootleg.

Thanks for your help.

So i was wondering if this Kotobukiya shiro figure is legit or not, i bought it without the box (seller told me that it got moldy for water issues) but he told me that when he bought it at an expo, it costed him 80Euros, and the box had the official seal and kotobukiya logo, and it definetly felt like it was good quality and there was a paper on that stand that said: We sell figures 100% legit (but you never know). Sooo here i am to ask for more peoples opinion xD, it definetly feels and seems legit, and at first i was worried because of the paint issues, but then i read about the first release of this figure having paint problems and all of that on specific parts, and definetly seems like this is the case.

Here are some pictures of the figure:

So, there you have it guys ^^, i really hope to get a little bit of help in this case xD, for me personally it again definetly feels and seems legit, but i would like to have other opinions on it :D.

Thanks, Laro :3

Hello, I purchased this at a con from a seller called Anime Closet two months ago. However after now opening it and putting it together, I starting to feel like I was duped into buying a bootleg, but I wanted to verify first before freaking out. Here is the item in question

Hello! I purchased the Good Smile Company, Rozen Maiden Shinku PVC figure from the vendor hall in Anime Central back in 2009, but I'm not completely certain if the one that I have is the legit figure or if it is the bootleg one. Unfortunately, I don't have the original box and the mirror that she came with broke a few years prior. However, I'm pretty certain that the one that I have is legit based on the fact she seems to match the pictures of the legit figure and her price point was roughly about the same as the legit article..(She was around $100 when I purchased her..) But, I want to be completely sure if the one that I have isn't a bootleg, and any assistance on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

goblinfool5個月前#75434674ah sorry! I only just recently realized that there were different figures of her but I'm referring to this one! (From Taito's Amazon)
[url=www.amazon.com/...[/url]

Mandarake has one for 2500 yen: order.mandarake.... Even with shipping, I think it'll still add up to a lot less than 60 USD.
Suruga-ya Japan is selling it for 3600 yen on their Japanese site (www.suruga-ya.j...), but you'll need a proxy.
The Amazon listing seems legit, but I don't own this figure so I'm not 100% certain. Be prepared for some flaws though—it is a prize figure after all.

Perky_Pat5個月前#75403085First off, which Taito Sakura Miku are you referring to specifically? Taito's made quite a few Sakura Mikus, and some versions are rarer then others. If you can link me to both the bootleg listing and the item's MFC entry I can help you compare them and maybe find a cheaper authentic listing somewhere.

goblinfool6個月前#75211961Hello hello! still relatively new to all this, so please bear with me =}
I was wondering if anyone knows the difference between the bootleg and the official version of Taito's Sakura Miku figure. I know you can purchase it under the official Taito Amazon for about 53.90 but that's a bit too much for me atm ;; I've seen listings on eBay from 30-11 dollars. I believe the official has clear plastic at the end of her pigtails and the bootleg is more cloudy, maybe it's the other way around. Thank you!
