Tired of being a consumer-Taking a breakTired of being a consumer-Taking a breakDiary

Hey guys, it’s been awhile, trying to find a job to pay for some stuff like a PC, maybe a new dishwasher and a few other things that are more important then figures right now.

I’ve already started to stop buying online stuff since A) shipping prices and B) no money
I have no desire to continue in this hobby anymore
Maybe I’ll come back later but I’m perfectly ok with the collection I’ve acquired so far.

Thankfully I’m a minimalist and not so much of an active collector....
So it’s been easy to slow down

I’ll have one more haul coming up soon but that’ll be the end of it, since I paid for some pre orders while I had a job and sold some stuff
(Wish I didn’t, these shipping costs aren’t worth it) but even saying the shipping prices aren’t worth it money is still money so in the end I’ll be paying $220 for shipping alone ;_; thankfully I can still pay that without a job.
Ah well, it’s been fun haha except now it’s time to save some money for the future whenever I get a new job (I’m tired and getting older, I think it’s time to think about the future haha)

It’s only been 4 years for me of collecting, I’m just curious how long till you guys stop or have you stopped?
(If that makes sense)

I’m just curious when others draw the line too
Personally I plan to invest in my own 3D printer once I find a job, personally I think it’ll be fun :) (cause the prices nowadays I can just make my own figures for the cost of one figure...)

Anyways see you guys soon for another haul!

RelaxedTime_4041天前#102474997In the past year since I've really gotten into collecting I've already wound down. I focus on statues and now have shifted to custom 3d printed statues that are one of a kind. I'm on the hunt for an STL file of a character that surprisingly has nothing, but im keeping my fingers crossed something eventually turns up. While I love finding stuff of my favorite games/shows...there's something now about having a one of a kind piece thats mine and painted by me and I cherish it so much more.
definitely :)

goliathus1天前#102460275Yeah I feel this too, I plan to take a very long break, probably like 6 month minimum.
All can I do is slowing down and appreciate what I already have.

Yeah same maybe to a year depends on when shipping will go back to normal :/

SebastianLover1天前#102459044Getting a 3D printer to make figures is something I've thought about too. In my case, it's not to replace buying figures though it's more to make figures of the characters nobody will touch. Of course, first I have to upgrade my living space so I can fit one lol. But I agree making your own figures is probably a lot of fun. That's why I want to start working on GKs.
As for stopping, that won't be me anytime soon. I do find fewer figures catch my eye, so I think I'll naturally curtail my collecting simply because there aren't as many I want, but I'm not going out of my way to cut back.

Yeah that’s why I’m gonna start the hobby, to create my own figures maybe GK’s who knows I’ll try to get the hang of it first.
But I’m in a different situation I just need a job and about $500 for the 3D printer I want plus computer parts for my pc haha
Then I’ll be ready to go
But good luck on your own 3D printing journey

Rikoei2天前#102430777Yeah definitely I think it sounds cool to learn it myself instead of spending hundreds on a hobby like this, of course it won’t be easy, but it’s worth trying and getting into another hobby (I tried sculpting with clay and it’s too hard to maintain and to get a kiln so I’m switching to a 3D printer cause that’s easier to do plus the “clay” is lighter and you can make larger figurines with it without all the hassle
(Maybe I can even sell some on Deviantart when I get the hang of it) do commissions and all that :)

Clay is interesting. Just sculpting in general sounds like a cool hobby. I've been thinking about painting dolls but it's not to the point of trying to make a living off of it so I'm a bit limited on how much time I can invest in it. That part sucks about having hobbies that don't provide for you. Good luck!

more along the lines of I have a large collection and I need to consider letting some items go, so considering what I can sell.

Not planning on quitting ever, just going to slow down or start to sell some items

TyjosAzari1天前#102434584After going through this collection recently in my latest series of blogs I'm at a point I don't need to spend anything else on figures and after the pile of this month's new figure additions gets bigger that should help make me say no to anything else.
Don't have a lot of Pre-Orders left anymore for 2021 so I can actually unplug from it and I figure after the next few blogs to cover what's come in and what is already here that may help to turn off the impulse to get anything.
I don't feel that need to for more right now, limiting going out to do shopping cause Gas Prices are going up and I don't want to spend more time being out looking for more things and not find what I'm after.
Enjoy your break!
It's sometimes fun to take a break from collecting and enjoy what you have.

Thanks, you too!
Hopefully the gas prices go down but I have also seen an increase in my area especially (not having a car in this time is a real blessing, phew)

GodlikeSascha1天前#102434404Yeah, the mindset of "this looks cool so I want it" motivated a lot of my earliest purchases... needless to say most of those figures are long gone now lol. I've learned to appreciate things on other people's shelves and not just my own.
I'm also trying not to spend too much - I limit myself to one figure a month unless I see something I really can't resist, but I have plenty of rules for those situations. It doesn't put much strain on my finances and makes dealing with eventual delays easier as well. My priority right now is getting rid of my credit card debt, but I intend to have that taken care of by the end of the year. After that I want to save for a house, so most of my extra money will go towards that.

Ouch credit card debt I’m so happy I don’t have any (I always pay in full) I don’t like debt
I also limit myself one figure per month but damn these shipping prices are the worst >:/
