Premium Figure Imports
  • ddarko4個月前#77297342In the ones I own, they do have the joints, but the armour pretty much restricts a lot of the movement. For some reason, my Nova has a lot of stiff joints in her left leg, but apparently it was a common issue with her release. I should do the hot water / blow drier treatment, but never got around to it haha.
Yes, the Alien Queen has a lot of bootlegs. So does the Ryu Hayabusa figure they did for Ninja Gaiden 2. I still kick myself to this day for not getting one when they had it at a local store back when it was released. Now, it is almost impossible to find the original. He has really good articulation by the way. The best Ryu figure ever made I think haha.
$25-$35 is decent. In the US, you can often find them for $19.99, but one has to be visiting at the right time to get one for that price.

Oh interesting! My NECA's are with so little joints I thought most of them were limited to 'swiveling around' only. I think only my Little Sister (Bioshock) has both arm and knee joints. Joint quality is so-so, they pop off quite easily.

Wow that Ryu bootleg looks pretty bad, it's missing so much of the shading! I've got to be honest: The joints on both look pretty obnoxious though, especially the one on the upper arms. From the real one, his sword and headpiece look very nice!

Yeah I think there was some kind of import deal (with Diamond Select Toys iirc) that makes us be able to get the figures for almost the same price. :) This is pretty rare for Europe, though!

tharglet4個月前#77298802Yeah, that's what the Legacy line is. To quote the translated version of kaiyodo.co.jp/i...
As regards the hood, no it is not removable on the figure - it's not designed to be able to grab it and the instructions do not list it as a removable part.

I see! Then it took Woody a lot of re-releases before he became 'Legacy'. :^)

Too bad, but on the other hand I was also surprised at how easily it can be removed from this figure!

Maakie4個月前#77297273he got re-released as a 'Legacy of Revoltech'. Hrmm, now that I re-read that, maybe it's just a name for best-selling figures?

Oooh~ Those are some really cool close-ups! I love the blue shading! Can you also remove her 'hood'?

KaiyodoFrom the revoltech products released so far, we have picked up items with high resale demands and revived the package with a new design!

Yeah with the NECA I also have and had, they had some movement here and there, but it's very limited. Mostly limited to spinning head, arms and legs and no actual joints in knees or arms.
I was by the way surprised when I looked up the Alien Queen and saw a lot of bootlegs out there from her, overall I don't see much NECA bootlegs.
I'm not sure how it is in this country I recently moved to (Finland), but when I still lived in the Netherlands, they were pretty decent. Most of the average releases (normal sized figure with 1 or 2 accessories) were 20-30 euros, about $25-35.

tharglet4個月前#77278152This is fairly standard for Kaiyodo imo - their renewals are usually just a change in the packaging, and are more re-release than a new version. The EVA figures I believe used to come with the crap "V" stands, and now it's a hex-shaped base which is a lot better and sturdier. The old Kaiyodo action stands are super-shite - the base isn't heavy or big enough, so most action poses tend to send the figure for a crash-landing.

That's disappointing. I'm not a Revoltech expert and from the 4 releases I got they were always earlier ones. Woody apparently also later got a 'renewal', if it's the same thing: he got re-released as a 'Legacy of Revoltech'. Hrmm, now that I re-read that, maybe it's just a name for best-selling figures? (Like games getting Platinum, Players Choice etc.)

When I still had my Yoko Revoltech I just had her stuck in one pose:

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2012/08/28/508550.jpeg

It required a lot of balancing, and I was basically stuck with a flying pose as she couldn't properly be posed standing.

Bah-Roo4個月前#77278540Oh god, I never knew that xenomorphs had a freaky human looking skull underneath their phallic black heads... that's horrifying! But kind of cool. But mostly horrifying XD
It's cool that that detail is included in this figure, even cooler that you can remove the hood. Does make you kind of wonder what the fuck is up with their anatomy tho, haha.
The mini mouth that pops out is the weakest part of this figure. I gotta say, in the banner pic for your review at first glance I thought that was a wrench sticking out of her mouth, lol

Haha, it's very hard to notice that in the overall pretty dark movies! :)

And LOL, when I saw the tongue I was just a bit disappointed, in close ups in this review it looks even worse than in person!

ddarko4個月前#77296521I actually do not have any Alien or Predator figures unfortunately. But, on another site I follow (ToyArk), they have a significant NECA coverage and there are lots of collectors of the NECA lines. So I’ve seen their discussions and figure reviews.
I do own NECA Sylvanas, Nova and Raynor (I love Starcraft and used to play a bit of Heroes of the Storm long time ago with Sylvanas as my main before she was nerfed). My experience was that their sculpt-work was exceptional, BUT, articulation was very limited, especially with Sylvanas. The paint colour was also a bit too dark for her skin, but that might have just been a design choice. From what I hear though, those figures are like the exception, and their other lines do have decent articulation like on the Aliens and Predators.
The other thing with NECA is that the price point is hard to beat when then contenders are Revo or Figma. Some of the Figma figures are the price of the Alien Queen lol.
Speaking of the Queen, there are three versions released by NECA so far. You have the blueish Queen from Aliens, a red one from the comics, and a brownish one from Alien resurrection. I have been waiting to get one of the Queens eventually, preferably the blue or brown one, just to have my Figmas and Revo ones posed in a battle setting for display haha.
P.S. I just realized that NECA might not be as cheap in Europe as it is in North America due to the shipping and import fees. So maybe they aren’t too attractive from the perspective of price point?

Yeah especially with the inside of the facehugger and the side views of the Alien's head I thought to myself..."Is this NSFW?". :P
And ah, you seem to chime in on NECA, do you have some of them yourself? I have NECA figures from other franchises and overall the quality is very nice, but in my experience so far the non-human characters look better. And I googled it and wow, that Alien Queen is impressive!

Honestly, I'm eyeing more on the Xenomorph Figma ITEM #675881 than this Revoltech's.
The mouth design on this Revoltech is a disaster, it looks like they inserted a random piece of plastic. What's the point of all these other small details on the design if you can't get right such an important part of the creature? >_>
And from the look of your review, the posability problem too isn't a good prospect.

    The detail is quite impressive.
Even the detail on the facehugger is better than most R-18 figures.

Thanks for liking the review! And yeah I agree on you there haha.

Heldrik4個月前#77277319That was a nice review, Maakie.
Can't go wrong with with good ol' Big Chap. Seing how well made it us makes me wonder when the hell will Ripley get a figure... I'm not asking for something like the Kenner toys from the early 90's (although they were awesome) but come on, the protagonist definitely needs more love.

Thanks! :) And well, I guess you have to look at Western manufacturers for that. NECA has made quite a bit of Ripley figures and although I don't own one myself, I always thought this one was pretty decent for the price:

ddarko4個月前#77277416Nice review. It was pretty funny about the nsfw aspect. Never thought about it that way haha.
For Alien figures (and predators), I think the gold standard at the moment is probably NECA. They are good size, and the sculpt work is usually really good too. I don’t know if you have seen the NECA Alien Queen, but that thing is absolutely massive!

Yeah especially with the inside of the facehugger and the side views of the Alien's head I thought to myself..."Is this NSFW?". :P

tharglet4個月前#77277421With my experience of clear plastics, there could be issues with integrity if they were clear. Would look cool though.
The orange box is Kaiyodo's standard accessory box - I have a bunch of these in a few different colours (yellow, orange, grey). As you found out, they're a bit useless as you can't store much in them so the vast majority of mine are empty. If you have a Revoltech with spare hands or something, those can go in there, but the Alien doesn't have anything meaningful that can actually fit. And many figures have parts that won't go in there, so I prefer just to bag the accessories together instead of use the stupid box.
Yeah, I get the feeling mine has more distinct paint, but that's all I could really see that looked different.

Yeah I assume they wouldn't be sturdy enough, but it would have been a cool look!

Similar to how with Figma everyone gets this same bag, these come with same/similar boxes. Alien doesn't even have extra parts to put in there, except for the nameplate I guess, haha.

It's a bit of a shame that for the renewal there are only minor improvements in paint and not actual big changes in the design of the figure in general.

Eccmy4個月前#77277619Excellent review, Maakie! I'm personnally a big fan of the Alien franchise (I do like the first film too, but my fave one is the second film by far), so I really enjoyed seeing a review of one of its figures for once.

Thanks for enjoying the review! :)

I don't know anyone that has the Figma, but we can be 99% sure that the posability will be better at least. Looking at the prototype pictures, the sculpt seems to hit all the details as well and has some more nice shading. The tongue and facehugger are definitely sculpted better. Considering you pay a lot more for the Figma, this Revoltech might still be a good 'lower budget' choice. ;) If you eventually buy the Figma, I would like to hear from you!
