Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Ymir ENTRY #1923 from Queen's Blade ENTRY #18 ! This figure ITEM #2355 shows her in her 2P color variant outfit and is made by MegaHouse ENTRY #7623 .

I will start off with telling some more about her background.

Background

Queen's Blade originally started out as combat books (art books you can play a game with because of stats and effects listed on each page), and was later turned into an anime. Just like the books, it shows an high amount of ecchi, specifically when during battle clothes and armor are torn off/damaged. The story is about the Queen's Blade tournament which a big and varied cast of female characters enter. The winner of the tournament will be the new Queen for 4 years. Every character has her own story on why she wants to become the next Queen.

Ymir is a Dwarven Princess, who takes a lot of pride in her heritage and her weaponsmith-work. The main reason for her entering the Queen's Blade tournament is to show everyone how high quality Dwarven weapons are. Similar to most Dwarven races in other media, she is very old, but does not show age. Ymir has a special gauntlet, that makes it easier for her to wield big weapons. The main opponent she has chosen for herself in the tournament is Cattleya ENTRY #1915 , a human weaponsmith.

The reason why and how I got her

Ever since I watched Queen's Blade for the first time, I really liked Ymir. Back in those days I was a college student, so I relied a lot on the local second hand market to save on shipping and customs charges for my collectibles. When one day this Ymir come up for sale on a local anime forum (and in my favorite color variation as well), I was quick in contacting her seller. All these years later I can't remember that well what I paid for her, but I doubt it's anything higher than $50 as even back then her price was pretty low.

Original art

Most of the combat books in the Queen's Blade series have gotten a color variation (limited) release. This look from Ymir was directly taken from the book ITEM #43759 . I did not find any artwork from her in the exact same posing as this figure is seen.

For more ramblings/discussion about this character her look, open the spoiler: View spoilerHide spoiler

I feel like the 2P color of her original outfit definitely helped inspire her look for Queen's Blade Rebellion (of which I have reviewed her figure ITEM #18544 here: BLOG #42364 ).

https://i.ibb.co/pvfkqd5/reference3.png

And what do you all think of her most recent design for the Queen's Blade: White Triangle mobile game? I love 95% of it. It's very royal (and a bit of a wedding dress!) and her hair looks so fluffy, but she has not lost her badass touch. The 5% I dislike is...what are those panties?! I know this is an ecchi series, but it the design is so non-fitting with the rest of the outfit! I would have liked a small armor piece or something like Aldra ENTRY #1914 wears so much more! I'm also a bit indifferent about her corset.

https://i.ibb.co/Kwm2fdb/reference4.png

This outfit comes (of course) also with a color variation which shows some similarities to this 2P version, but has some unique parts with the pink and purple mixed in.

Despite a few complaints on my side about this character design, I would definitely buy a figure of her if it would ever come out. However, I don't think this game was popular enough to get in on the merchandising.

Video

For people that prefer the box shots, first look and first shots of the figure as a video, please take a look at the inserted video below. For the people interested in pictures: keep on scrolling!

Parts of this video will also appear as gifs during this review! And also a notice this time: Multiple of my gifs were too big for even resizing and I don't have the software in which I made these gifs anymore. This means you'll have to watch the video to see all the angles and poses animated!

The Box

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413008.jpeg

As with a lot of older figures (and sometimes prize figures nowadays), the box is designed for two different figures at a time. The other one being the color variation of Airi ITEM #2354 , of which I own the regular color version ITEM #152 (for a straight-to-the-point review of that figure: the quality is very nice for her age, especially her face PICTURE #255816 is still one of my favorites in my figure collection, her cast-off options are horrible to make them work though).

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413009.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413011.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413010.jpeg

It feels a bit cheap to have a duo-box for a not-so-cheap-for-the-standards-back-then scaled figure, but the overall design of the box is nice and the cardboard very sturdy.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413012.jpeg

When this figure was new, the top of the box was sealed with three square tapes.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413013.jpeg

The front of the box has a license sticker from Hobby Japan.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413014.jpeg

The inside of the box is a nice blue color with the Queen's Blade logo and the names of the figures.

First Look

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413016.jpeg

The box has good quality blisters. There is a separate back blister that holds her base.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413017.jpeg

The figure comes in four pieces:
- Main figure (wearing all of her clothes: skirt, panties and bra can be removed)
- Upper part axe
- Lower part axe
- Base

The Figure - as cast off as possible

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413018.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413019.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413021.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413020.jpeg

This is the furthest you can strip down this figure of Ymir. As I reviewed her other figure not very long ago, I thought it was interesting how Ymir looks a lot more skinny and has a flatter chest in this figure compared to the other. Personally, I like her more in her 'healthier' body type of the Rebellion figure.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413022.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413023.jpeg

Ymir's chest is pretty flat, but from the side you can see some feminine shapes. I like how they didn't skip out on shading for her nipples.

The look of the corset is still pretty nice even with the top piece gone. The sculpt of the corset itself is good, but the linework of the paint is so-so.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413024.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413025.jpeg

For the people wondering how she is 'down there', she is a barbiedoll, although I do appreciate the non-genital shapes all being sculpted and seeming in movement in a natural way.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413026.jpeg

Although her behind is also quite a bit more flat than on my other Ymir figure, I do like how the transition from her buttocks to her thighs is shaped. There is also a lot of shading on her thighs and lower back.

On all the pictures from her bare lower body, you can see some light (mainly black- and grey-ish) paint transfers of pieces that are worn on top.

The Figure - with underwear and full corset

https://i.ibb.co/qDhZyy1/ymir3.gif

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413027.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413028.jpeg

A 'midway' display option would be to keep her skirt off (so you can see the detailed underwear), but put her bra piece back on to make her sort-of SFW to display.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413029.jpeg

I like how Ymir always wears underwear pieces high in detail and with big ribbons! This piece of underwear has a really nice metallic shimmer to it. My specific copy has a small part where they have forgotten the purple paint and it shows white.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413030.jpeg

I do wish the fit of the panties was a bit better, but this is something that is hard to do, even with newer cast-off figures.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413031.jpeg

The back has these cute ruffles and the low cut of the underwear reminds me of Humikane Shimada's ENTRY #21456 style.

The Figure - fully clothed

https://i.ibb.co/6WbgdmD/ymir4.gif

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413034.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413035.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413037.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413036.jpeg

The wide pose and the big weapon really make this figure have quite a presence!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413032.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413033.jpeg

Ymir's right hand has a movable wrist joint, giving you many options in how you would like her axe to be posed. Personally I like the 'wide' look with the axe to the ground, but there are options to let her take less space on your display!

You can also freely choose how high or low on the handle you let Ymir hold her axe, giving even more variations.

Looking at all the details!

https://i.ibb.co/zZXG9TR/ymir5.gif

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413038.jpeg

Ymir's face is cute, although the simplicity of it shows the age of the figure a bit.

I like the bit of lip paint and how her eyes are sculpted in, giving more depth.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413039.jpeg

Her hair and bangs are so-so by today's standards, but nice for the standards from 12 years ago. The shading in the hair is a bit crude here and there.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413040.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413041.jpeg

Her hair drills at the back have aged a lot less well, you can see a lot of seamlines and the paint is not that great at all spots either. I have random darker blonde, grey-ish and black paint spots.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413042.jpeg

The top of her hair looks surprisingly good. Her cap perfectly hides the seamline and the sculpt and shading of the top of her hair looks nice. I like how her back hair is getting pulled into the drill curls. Speaking about the curls, you can see some more PVC leftover with them from this angle. I think such detailed and small pieces were pushing the limits of mass produced figures back then.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413045.jpeg

Ymir's pointy ears were not forgotten, although they do not catch a lot of attention with that big hairdo to look at.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413043.jpeg

Ymir wears a nicely detailed black and gold bracelet (of which my copy has a bit of discoloration at the top) and you can see a hint at collarbones in her sculpt. Her bra looks a bit loose compared to the rest of the corset (which can be directed to the cast-off fitting again). The linework in the sculpt and paint of the bra and corset is decent.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413046.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413044.jpeg

The bags and belts around Ymir's waist have nice sculpt and painting.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413047.jpeg

The open back of her dress gives this outfit a more feminine look. The sculpt of her back is nice and the ribbons a cute addition.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413048.jpeg

And now for what is in my opinion the biggest issue on this figure...the paint of the skin color on her arms. They absolutely did not color match it with the rest of her body and I have been thinking about repainting it myself.

The lower half of the gloves show some nice shading. The top part has a couple of paint defects and a visible seamline.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413049.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413050.jpeg

The sculpting of the fabric gloved hand is a bit rough. I do like how some of the detailed lines were accentuated by blue shading. The fingers look a bit bulky, which is partially because of the glove design and partially because of the casting being a bit crude. Still looking very good for her age, though!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413051.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413052.jpeg

The armored glove has nice metallic colors and although most of the paint is not applied perfectly, it looks good enough to me.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413053.jpeg

The sculpt of the armored fingers looks a lot nicer to me than the gloved fingers.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413054.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413055.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413056.jpeg

The nice metallic look continues on the axe, which also shows a lot of shading. There are barely any paint errors to be seen here, although some parts of the paint look a bit 'damaged' (high chance of it being dust during the painting in the factory).

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413058.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413059.jpeg

Ymir's skirt looks a bit simple from the front, but the open part at the back fully shows her very detailed and ruffled petticoat! The paint at the petticoat is very nice, but there are a couple of paint defects that seem like extra thick blothes of paint and a few parts that look like trapped dust/hair from the factory (such as what you see at the bottom left).

https://i.ibb.co/L5MTfbx/ymir6.gif

I want to give some extra attention to the lovely metallic shine on the white parts, which looks even better in person.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413057.jpeg

It's interesting how a pantyshot does not cause much attention anymore after you have seen the figure already fully nude, however, looking underneath Ymir's skirt, gives you a full view of her panties (or her being nopan, if you wish to do so and display her without panties).

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413060.jpeg

Ymir's socks have similar sculpting and painting defects as her gloves. Her armored shoes however, are almost flawless and show off some awesome metallic paint again.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413061.jpeg

I like how the wrinkles in the socks are sculpted. The shading on the shoes is nice as well.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413062.jpeg

I really like the attention to detail in the sculpt of the armored shoes. The painting of the gold line is a slightly bit rough.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413063.jpeg

The base of this figure is a big metallic pink piece of plastic mentioning the name of the series. It supports the figure well, even holds the bottom piece of the axe, but it's a bit basic.

Size comparison

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413073.jpeg

This Ymir is a bit smaller than my Rebellion Ymir. Rebellion Ymir is standing more upright and is wearing higher heels though, and both figures are listed at a 1/8 scale. Still, they look a bit strange displayed so directly to eachother so I was planning on changing placement a bit once I got more of my Ymir items out on display.

The Points

Positive
+ Many display options.
+ Overall high quality piece for her release time.

Neutral
+/- Design of the box meant for two different figures.

Negative
- Some parts really show her age, such as seamlines and paint defects.

The Scores

Sculpting 8/10
Very nice sculpt for her age, some parts would be certainly different by todays' standards, but she really looks good for a figure 12 years old.

Painting 7/10
A bit more defects here and there than I would have liked, but not bad overall.

Posing 8/10
You can debate it's a bit static considering the character and her wielding a weapon, but I like how she seems to be challenging you or preparing for battle. The joint in her right arm also gives her multiple display options.

Base 7/10
It's not too big and the metallic shine is nice, but it's not something special.

Packaging 7/10
The design and the quality of the box is nice, but as it was designed to hold two different scaled figures, it feels a bit like a sneaky way to save costs by the manufacturer.

Enjoyment 8/10
I really like this figure in my Ymir collection and would for sure not let her go. However, her being one of my older Ymir items, she does show her age a bit, which is why I enjoy my other Ymir items, such as my Rebellion figure, more.

Conclusion

Highly recommended for fans of Ymir and Queen's Blade. However if you also like her Rebellion outfit, I would say her Rebellion MegaHouse figure ITEM #18544 is the best Ymir out there. If you prefer this outfit or just want to add more Ymir to your collection, this figure is certainly not a bad buy either!

Availability

She used to be easy to get until a couple of year ago, at the moment of writing she seems a lot harder to get. I could only find one place that has her in stock right now, this link on Mandarake: order.mandarake... . As she goes for only 2K, there is not much that could go wrong there! Her original color version seems to go to 2K on the aftermarket as well and the more rare other variations of this figure seem to fetch around 4K.

And to finish it!

Currently my whole collection is boxed away because of my emigration, but here is how she was displayed:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/03/26/2413074.jpeg

I hadn't finished unboxing yet, so she just stood there together with my other Ymir figure. I like how her pose seems to 'announce' the presence of Rebellion Ymir.

For those who read all this way, thank you! My next review will be about something completely different again, the Revoltech Alien figure ITEM #21667 !

I hope you enjoyed this review, you could also check my other figure reviews when interested! As promised, for every new blog I would fix the image hosting of an older blog. I decided to fix up the review of another Queen's Blade figure:

darkfader3個月前#77874440I saw a pink version on Suruga-ya for a reasonable price, so I ordered it :)

Nice! I also always like her blue version as well. :) And it's interesting how this figure keeps on being so cheap! She's well worth the prices she is regularly going for.

vgadict4個月前#77090958I was introduced to QB through the gamebooks and figures in the mid-2000s. I don't own Ymir, but I do own these other QB figs (ITEM #335, ITEM #426, ITEM #427, ITEM #717, ITEM #952, ITEM #1000, ITEM #2449). The quality of Megahouse figures was a step above most of the competition the time, and their QB figures were a big reason why castoff figures became so popular during that era.

That's an excellent question, and one I might be able to help answer. There were actually some figures by other companies that managed to make better-fitting cast off undergarments. One of the earliest with fairly good form-fitting cast off panties is probably ITEM #339 which was released in mid-2007, shortly after MegaHouse released the first Ymir figure version (ITEM #334). The Morte figure may have flown under the radar of many collectors at the time, but no doubt the other figure companies took notice and found ways to integrate and improve upon what Toranoana had done with Morte.

Those are very good choices as well! Especially Nyx and Echidna, I have had multiple moments where I almost bought those. :)

And yes, QB was a perfect franchise with it's varied cast of attractive characters (there is at least one for everyone's tastes) to make a figure line. I'm really happy about the popularity it got as almost every character has a figure in at least one outfit/pose. :)

That is interesting, especially because it was Toranoana, which isn't necessarily known for being outstanding in quality or design. This made me look into it some more and I might have one of the oldest 'swappable body' figures made by them: ITEM #4715 + PICTURE #707862 . :)

victorviper4個月前#77091014Yeah, after reading your review I would have to go with ITEM #18544 should I some day decide to get a Ymir figure for my collection. I bought all of my Megahouse QB figures (Airi, Elina, Mirim) before I started reviewing figures, so I've really taken a close critical look at any of them, and so I was surprised to see all the mold lines in Ymir's hair.
I rather like the design of White Triangle Ymir, but the super high-cut panties do look rather weird.

Yes, I recommend Rebellion Ymir a lot more, not only for the quality and display options, but looking back at this older Ymir figure really made me realize how I appreciate her more realistic body type on her newer figure. It's also in general nice to see how sculpting has improved in quality over the years. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one! When that design was revealed I remember looking at her cute face, her axe, her fluffy hair and then going WHAT ARE THOSE PANTIES. Still, I would fully support a figure being made of that design, might just get creative with changing up the look of her panties then. ;)

gundamuk4個月前#77092540Hi Maakie,
Always great to see another QB post of yours. And a great review. Personally I remain a fan of the QB Revoltech figures given the play factor, but some of the old Megahouse versions like your Ymir are classic.
And BTW thanks for highlighting the new QB game White Triangle – hopefully they’ll release some new QB figures from it as it’s been a while since we got any. Cheers!

Thanks for enjoying it! :) I might pick up the 2P Revoltech Ymir one day, but with her current market price, I rather first go for other Ymir goods to add to my small Ymir shrine. :)

No problem! I want to believe and hope we see some figures from it one day! Multiple characters have really fun new looks, next to Ymir I also like Aldra, Cattleya and Nowa's new designs!

CaptainZ4個月前#77112065I love figures from this era the value you got was insane compare to what you get today

MegaHouse did even more insane stuff, with for example the double-jointed in both arms other Ymir which also comes with a swappable extra face, next to all her clothing being able to cast off! What I especially like with figures from the 00's and early 10's is that a lot of the extra options and functions were 'surprises' when you received your figure...instead of being extra additions that raise the figure it's sales price.

Maakie4個月前#77090339Thank you for liking the review! The QB figures were really something big in the 00's and most collectors I knew back then owned a couple of them even if they weren't fan of Queen's Blade, just because of how easy they were to get compared to other figures. And you really got your money's worth for the quality (MegaHouse was really on a different level compared to their competitors back then).
I was introduced to QB through the gamebooks and figures in the mid-2000s. Maakie4個月前#77090339I think it wasn't for another couple of years after this figure that cast-offs were improving in fitting. When I was typing this comment I was looking through the database for a while as I was curious if we could pin the advancement of cast-off quality on a specific figure or a specific year, but it's pretty hard! When I look in my own collection I either have oldies with cast-off issues or newer releases that work very well.

Yozieseins4個月前#77090553Well, so far other than Ymir, I enjoy Tomoe (have a figure of her on order), Irma, the three bad girls (Melona, Airi, Menace), and others, but my favorite is probably Elina. I know she's a horrible person, but I love her design and I have a thing for characters who use lances. I'll be checking out those Excellent Model listings in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.

Those are very good choices as well! I especially like Airi and Menace from the ones you mentioned. I by the way also have a soft spot for Nowa and her instructor Alleyne. :) Also Yuit and Vante! I recently bought Yuit as I thought it was cute to display her as well on my Ymir shelf. :)

Hehe, Elina is interesting in her own way and I like her design more than our main character Leina.

No problem! If you still remember this talk after a while, I would be interested in which Excellent Model(s) you have bought! :)
