Hello and welcome to my review!

This review is on Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate - Marie Rose - ARTFX J - 1/6 (Kotobukiya), a figure I bought some time ago, and really enjoy. It took a while for the "new figure glow" to wear off, but I think I can do a fair review of this amazing figure now.

Alright, to start off, lets look at a full body view of Marie

My first thought holding her out of the box was "What the heck, she's huge." Big difference between a 1/8 and a 1/6. I should have realized that, but I don't have a very large collection, so this was my first 1/6 I'd seen in person.

She has a very nice pose, and she looks very sassy. Pretty much exactly like she looks in DOA5! Like the figure walked off the screen and onto your shelf.

Next, a closeup of her face

Nice, centered eyes, small nose, looks kind of vacant though.

Moving down, we can see her nicely detailed skirt! the straps and little rings (not sure what to call them) are pretty small but still look pretty real. I really love the frills all over her, those were one of the highlights of her design in game.

Let's move up to her hair next:

I think the weaving of the hair and little miss-matching crossings show a lot of thought into the creation of the figure, but it doesn't seem quite as detailed as the rest of the figure in terms of shading. I'm very picky about hair though.

Moving down once more, we have the bow:

I think that speaks for itself.

The skirt comes off to reveal bloomers!

Very poofy and cute!

But. I'm having an issue with them.

They won't stay clipped at the joint, and I don't know how to get them to stay latched without a seam, making display hard without the skirt...

Now that the skirt is off, we can see the boots more clearly!

Again, nice detail, the straps go well with the rest of her outfit, and there's even stitching along the bottom of the shoe. They add a lot of height to the character, but I'd almost like a way to take them off, they look weird if you pick the last level of cast off, which is taking the bloomers off.

See for yourself!

Still super cute and very fun to look at. If you direct your attention to the leather straps at the thigh, you'll see they dig into the thigh slightly, creating a small thigh-high affect. I gotta say, I'm a huge sucker for that. Not sure what it's called, but I love it!

Down here we have a close up of that "she's 18 we swear" butt:

Not bad shading on the panties, but I'm not a big fan of figures that I can't display with my family around, so I won't be seeing a lot of them.

Here's a front shot:

And that's her! Marie Rose! Ultimately a very well made figure! The base is a bit plain, but I have her on a higher shelf so I don't notice. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves DOA, or who just likes gothic lolita style!

Thanks for reading!

victorviper (1年前) #24763517Thanks for this review, as I was hoping someone would review this figure.
Your review made me notice some neat features of this figure (the details on the back of her dress and on her shoes in particular seem pretty good), and the "three levels" of castoffability of the skirt is sort of interesting, but there is one thing that I just can't shake which prevents me from picking up this figure. Marie's legs, her calves in particular just seem way too short relative to the rest of her body.
When I first saw the promo shots, I thought that might just be an optical illusion because of the big skirt and the slightly low-angle perspective that was used in those shots, but even when the skirt is removed, it still looks like her legs are too short.
Since I like Marie a lot and I sort of need a Marie figure, I'm hoping that Max Factory's Marie ITEM #464603 will turn out nice!

I never noticed the odd proportions, but now that you mention it, it is a little off. I don't think it's an issue though, her high boots, the thick soles, the leather straps on the legs, they all sort of make any size issues blend imo. But I know how it is! If you see a flaw in a figure, it's hard to see anything BUT that flaw in the future!

I'm also looking forward to item/464603! I think it'll be a nice piece to add to my collection, I'll just have to hope it's not too much money... 1/5 is pretty big, and anything over $200 I'm not sure I could justify it at this point in my collection.

Maakie (1年前) #25174818Thank you for this review! Because the figure comes so close to the style of the DOA 5 game, I have been very intrigued with it. I must say that I'm especially impressed with all the small details on her clothing (Kotobukiya delivering very nice work!) and I looove her shoes. <3 I also like the 'layers' of her dress. Her bloomers are very cute, but the panties quite plain (and don't look that good in combination with the rest of her outfit).

I agree! It looks very real, and they did a great job! But even if I didn't have to worry about my family, I think I'd keep her skirt on just because the panties aren't as impressive as the rest of her.

About this blog

Just a college guy collecting figures. Not much more than that. I like collecting a lot of things, figures are the most fun to collect, but I also collect books, comics, trading cards, and vinyls, although I don't have as many of those. I tend to fill up any space I occupy, but I really like things looking organized, even if it's cluttered.
