I'm going on vacation starting tomorrow, but wanted to squeeze in this review before I left!

Today, I'll be reviewing one of San-ei's Action Kirby plushes, specifically the "B" version. Both this Kirby and the "A" variant (ITEM #177236) were released last November and, as with many San-ei Nintendo products, became hard to find (but backorderable, at least) at several online stores soon afterward. Earlier this year, I managed to nab the last Action Kirby B that HLJ had in stock; unfortunately, A was already out of stock there.

Kirby comes in a large plastic canister. The paper insert shows examples of the poses you can make and also displays the other Action Kirby products, including the optional accessory packs you can buy for him.

Kirby sits on top, while the included accessory set is at the bottom.

There are three sets of curved holes at the top of the canister. I'm not exactly sure what they're there for.

After removing the taped-on lid, we can see that Kirby is securely packed much in the same way that figures are, with molded pieces of plastic holding him in place.

There's a cute pattern on the inside of the container's insert <3 Speaking of which, when you pack the plastic parts back inside, you'll want to take out this insert beforehand, so as not to risk tearing it.

Here's the contents of the package, with Kirby's limbs detached. As you can see, the Velcro parts are the same color as the main fabric-- if there's any great deviation between the two, color-wise, I haven't noticed it. Also, they can't be seen here, but there are laundry tags on one of the feet and on the headphones, while the other parts are tag-free.

Kirby's body, Canvas Curse style. Unlike the soft limbs and accessories, Kirby's body is entirely stiff. This is more the sort of plushie that you display rather than cuddle with. The embroidery is up to San-ei's usual high standards, except for one spot: one of Kirby's cheeks bumps up against one of the seams. However, this is the face's only major flaw.

As noted before, Kirby's arms, feet, and accessories all have Velcro on them, and can be attached to the main body in any number of ways. The Velcro is strong and grippy, and as such, care should be taken when detaching pieces, so that Kirby's soft cloth surface doesn't get too scraggly and worn out.

Here's how Kirby compares, size-wise, to your average Nendoroid.

And here's how he stacks up against King Dedede (ITEM #63961), my largest Nintendo plushie. As for Kirby's pose here, note that the feet are flat and stiff on the bottom, but even so, for precarious positions like this, you'll want him leaning up against something. For regular standing and sitting poses, he can be freely displayed without any sort of support.

The accessories included can be used to give Kirby his "Mike" power, no enemy swallowing required (separate accessory packs include parts for Cutter, Beam, and other powers). The headphones and mike come with protective pieces of brown cloth over the Velcro bits, which is a nice touch. In general, aside from a thread or two poking out, these parts are well-made.

The pieces attach just as well as Kirby's limbs, and broaden the range of poses one can make.

As with Kirby's feet, the bottom of the mike is flat. However, it can't stand freely very well.

While I messed around with the accessories, I took a look at Kirby's back. The center seam there was zigzaggy-- not sure if that was intentional. However, given that I won't be looking at his back very much, this wasn't a huge deal.

Overall, this is a fun addition to any Kirby fan's collection. Kirby already has a fair number of high-quality goods available, and although this isn't one of the absolute best, it is still worth getting, provided you have the space for him.

R_Kasahara6年前#2229947A regular sized baseball cap would fit, but I'm not sure how well. Thinking of creating Ness Kirby? ;)
(Sorry for the late reply, but I just got back home last night.)

About this blog

I don't write blog posts here as often as I should, but at least I'm writing at all!

Posts here generally concern figures and other collectables. For reviews, I often like to highlight items which may have gone overlooked, or are otherwise interesting. In general, I strive for high-quality posts above all else.

I also maintain a blog here which is mostly about video games, and sometimes about manga and anime.
